Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
