From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
